The nerd word of the week is … protective order. In every criminal case, the government hands its evidence to defense attorneys so they can review it and craft their defense strategy. Judges frequently issue protective orders to make clear a defendant and their lawyers cannot share that information with people not directly involved in the case, like, say, pesky reporters.
