Public approval of the Supreme Court has plummeted in recent years, in part because of questions over the justices’ out of court behavior. This term is no exception. Among other things, Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. and his wife Martha-Ann have faced criticism after public revelations that politically charged flags flew outside their homes. Court transparency advocates continue to question the decision by Justice Clarence Thomas to accept free air travel and trips from friends, and not to report some of it on his ethics disclosure forms.
