Morgan Wallen, Miranda Lambert and Eric Church will headline 2024’s Stagecoach country music festival, organizers announced Thursday, bringing together the genre’s biggest act and two of its established superstars.
The three-day event, set for April 26 to 28 at Indio’s Empire Polo Club, will also feature Jelly Roll, Hardy, Bailey Zimmerman, Megan Moroney, Elle King, Dwight Yoakam and 90-year-old Willie Nelson.
Among the non-country acts on the bill for the annual show, which takes place a week after the Coachella festival pulls up stakes in the same location and which has slowly gotten more eclectic over its decade-and-a-half history: veteran rock band Nickelback (whose longtime producer, Joey Moi, now works closely with Wallen), rapper Wiz Khalifa, R&B singer Leon Bridges and Post Malone, the genre-blurring hitmaker who’s slated to perform a set of country covers in Indio. The Beach Boys — that is, Mike Love’s version of the enduring California group (minus Brian Wilson) — will also appear.
Wallen’s booking at Stagecoach is the latest sign that the 30-year-old singer and songwriter has been fully re-embraced by the country industry after he was caught on video in early 2021 drunkenly using the N-word to refer to a friend. His latest album, “One Thing at a Time,” has spent 15 weeks atop the Billboard 200, while its lead single, “Last Night,” has logged 16 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 — the second-longest run in the history of Billboard’s singles chart.
Earlier Thursday, Wallen was nominated for Nashville’s highest honor when the Country Music Assn. announced that he’s in the running for its entertainer of the year award — against Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, Carrie Underwood and Lainey Wilson — at November’s CMA Awards.
Lambert, who previously headlined Stagecoach in 2015, was nominated for female vocalist of the year at the CMAs; Jelly Roll and Wallen are up for male vocalist of the year.
