SAN DIEGO, CA – Questions continue surrounding the March 23, 2026, passing of Tyrone Thomas Carter, also known as Lil T. Barter, as his body remains at California Cremation & Burial while multiple investigations remain ongoing.

According to individuals familiar with the matter, concerns first arose surrounding the circumstances of Carter’s passing at 51 years old and the timeline that followed. Carter was a childhood Type 1 diabetic known by family to experience low blood sugar episodes that could require immediate sugar intake, including soda or juice.

Suspicion increased after the body was transported directly to California Cremation & Burial without next of kin authorization and without a traditional coroner process taking place. Community rumors and lies later claimed the body had been “sent away,” “cut up,” taken to a “slaughterhouse,” or was no longer recoverable. Those lies allegedly led to threats, fear, and safety concerns directed toward the next of kin.

Questions reportedly increased after the next of kin began seeking clarification from Deann Hooker, the individual trusted as healthcare power of attorney. The next of kin is the head of a military family, operating as a single parent while a spouse is away on active-duty assignment in the U.S. Army.

As concerns grew, additional information began to emerge through ongoing investigations into the timeline surrounding Carter’s passing and post-passing handling. 911 materials tied to the March 23 incident reportedly reference a Code Blue response during which staff attempted to determine whether Carter was “full code or DNR.” Public discussion increased after a Do Not Resuscitate order dated March 10, 2026, was later identified as part of the timeline.

Investigations have now noted that Carter passed just 13 days after the March 10 DNR was established. This timeline has sparked life insurance fraud investigations with the California Department of Insurance, alongside the ongoing California Department of Public Health investigation into Country Hills Post Acute and the California Cemetery and Funeral Bureau investigation into the mortuary.

Reports also describe an April 18 memorial gathering held at a marina event space that included cardboard cutouts, photo coasters, pins, and promotional items used in place of a body that many community members believed was no longer recoverable due to the spread of misinformation. The gathering also included a deejay and music, and reports further indicate that money was collected to help host and support the event.

Due to active threats and safety concerns, direct contact with the next of kin is not being requested at this time. A cease-and-desist request has been issued regarding harassment and continued lies directed toward the next of kin. For questions regarding current body status, California Cremation & Burial remains the location where Carter’s body is being preserved while investigations continue.

SAFETY ADVISORY: Due to active threats and ongoing safety concerns, the public is strictly advised against attempting direct contact with the next of kin at this time. Law enforcement and legal representatives are monitoring the situation to ensure the protection of the family during this period.
