In a deeply troubling incident in Quebec, Canada, an international master’s student found themselves at the center of a disturbing racism encounter during a housing dispute. Opting for anonymity, the student initially left a rented room due to plumbing issues, despite Quebec’s protective tenant laws, aiming to prevent further conflict.

However, complications arose when an Amazon order was mistakenly delivered to the old address. Efforts to retrieve the package resulted in silence from the landlord. A face-to-face encounter escalated into a heated verbal altercation with the landlord’s boyfriend, taking a distressing turn with the use of racist remarks.

In a recorded exchange, the boyfriend utilized derogatory language, branding the student a “middle eastern bastard” and making disparaging comments about their background and living conditions. The incident was documented on video, providing undeniable proof of the disturbing racist behavior.

The video summary exposed the landlord’s boyfriend bragging about being a McGill student while unleashing racist slurs. The association with such a prestigious institution intensifies the gravity of the situation.

Instances like these spotlight the challenges faced by international students and the persistent prevalence of racism in society. Disappointed by the landlord’s lack of response, the student seeks to raise awareness by sharing their story, emphasizing the urgent need to address racism and discrimination.

Screenshots of communications with the landlord and the altercation recording serve as evidence. The student, actively seeking community and authority support, contemplates further actions to address this distressing incident and combat racial prejudice. Join the movement to stand against discrimination and support the affected student.
