“There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.” – Aldous Huxley
Two years ago, when I decided to take up swimming for fitness, I was excited to return to a sport I had always enjoyed in my youth. The gym’s pool had a 25-meter lap, and I felt unstoppable. However, the first day back in the pool proved to be more challenging than anticipated. Even one lap was a struggle, and I had to take breaks between the second and third laps. By the fourth lap, I was completely exhausted. Something wasn’t right – I was out of practice and had lost my technique.
On my way home, I engaged in mind talk to determine what went wrong. After considering various options and learning more about swimming, I felt better prepared for my next session. I set a seemingly unrealistic goal of swimming eight laps without stopping, but I achieved it and continued to increase the number of laps. Within three weeks, I could swim 40 laps without stopping. This small victory resulted from the habits I had developed over time and the “never give up” mindset that can help me navigate more significant life challenges.
Allow me to introduce HABITS4MIRACLES – eight habits to incorporate into our daily lives, bit by bit, to clear our minds and create space for problem-solving. While I don’t necessarily believe in miracles, I do believe in the transformative power of small habits over time, which can, in many ways, feel miraculous.
M – Mind talk: Engage in positive mind-talk to promote confidence and self-esteem.
I – Ideation: Capture ideas through journaling to convert thoughts into actions.
R – Reading: Read five pages daily to expand knowledge and stimulate the brain.
A – Analyzation: Reflect on experiences, learning from them to make better decisions.
C – Calmness: Use past successes to stay calm during challenges, reminding yourself that you can overcome obstacles.
L – Listening: Pay attention to your intuition when making decisions, and invest time in understanding yourself.
E – Exercise: Dedicate even just five minutes a day to physical activity, promoting positivity and a healthy lifestyle.
S – Silence: Allocate five minutes daily for quiet reflection, improving mental and physical health and connecting with the world around you.
Through these small, daily habits, we can achieve transformation and create an environment for miraculous growth and success. With 20% of Americans dealing with mental illness and 12 million considering suicide, adopting these habits is crucial. If you believe these habits can benefit others, please share this article and try these practices:
- Journal your thoughts, feelings, and opinions using apps like Reflectly or Happyfeed, promoting self-understanding.

- Surround yourself with an inner circle of people who encourage, motivate, and bring positivity.
- Prioritize self-care, dedicating time to activities that make you happy and enhance your well-being.
