HICKORY, NC — The Putt-Putt Fun Center in Hickory became the epicenter of excitement and surprise as Bryan Deal of Valdese emerged triumphant in a stunning fashion during the Hickory Christmas Classic Tournament. In a thrilling comeback, Deal secured a come-from-behind victory over three rounds and 54 holes on course one, renowned for hosting PPA and APA tournaments.

Participants and enthusiasts interested in upcoming tournaments can explore more details on the company’s website: https://puttputt.com/hickory-nc.

Following the completion of the first round, Pro Mini Golf Hall of Famer and PPA player Greg Newport, a rare perfect 18 achiever in Putt-Putt history, held a three-stroke lead. Newport faced stiff competition from reigning (APA) N.C. State Champion Richard Miller and newcomer Gavin Hoke of Hickory. Meanwhile, Bryan Deal positioned himself among the top six contenders, setting the stage for an enthralling competition.

Tournament score sheet

Deal’s exceptional performance unfolded in the second round, where he recorded the lowest score of the day with an impressive 23. This not only narrowed the gap between him and the leader but also positioned him ahead of Miller and other formidable competitors. Heading into the third and final round, Newport maintained control of the lead, with Deal trailing closely by just one stroke.

As the tournament reached its pinnacle, Deal continued his impressive run, securing the second-lowest round of the day with a score of 24. This accomplishment granted him the lowest consecutive rounds of the tournament, ultimately securing a first-place finish. Deal edged out Miller by two strokes, who claimed the runner-up position, while Newport finished in third place, trailing by five strokes.

For Bryan Deal, this victory holds significant weight as it marks a milestone in his first full season of Putt-Putt competition, adding another accolade to his growing resume. Noteworthy achievements include being the co-holder of the Best Ball single-round tournament record in Hickory, alongside teammate Miller. Deal also earned the title of the 2023 Hickory City Best Ball Champion, sharing the honor with Miller, and secured the runner-up spot for Best Ball Player of the Year with the second-most tournament wins in 2023.

The Putt-Putt Fun Center invites the public to participate in their putting tournaments throughout the year, promising an inclusive and thrilling experience for participants of all skill levels.
