House Republicans are meeting Tuesday morning for the third time since the ouster of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as speaker to pick a new GOP nominee. Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) was the top vote-getter in the first round of balloting but fell short of a majority. A second round is taking place with one fewer candidate. While Emmer is considered the front-runner, he is not a favorite of some backers of former president Donald Trump and his allies. It could take several rounds of voting for a nominee to emerge.
