1. You’ve had an extensive career in the business world, from managing freight forwarding companies to diversifying into various industries like fashion, real estate, and hospitality. Can you share what drives your entrepreneurial spirit and your vision for these ventures?

My entrepreneurial spirit is deeply rooted in the belief that businesses can be a force for positive change. What drives me is the desire to innovate and create ventures that not only thrive economically but also contribute to the betterment of the communities they operate in.

For instance, in the fashion industry, we aim to promote Nepali culture and craftsmanship while providing employment opportunities. In real estate, we seek to develop sustainable and environmentally conscious properties. The hospitality sector, through ventures like KAMANA KITCHEN in Hawaii, allows us to introduce Nepali cuisine and culture to a wider audience. These endeavors are not just about profit; they’re about leaving a lasting, positive impact.

2. Your involvement in various organizations, such as the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) and Lions Club International, showcases your dedication to community service. Can you tell us about a specific project or initiative that you’re particularly proud of within these organizations?

Absolutely. Within the NRNA, one project that stands out is our work with the Shree Pashupatinath Foundation, USA. We managed to raise over $1 million for the foundation, which has allowed us to support education, healthcare, and disaster relief efforts in Nepal. What I’m particularly proud of is that we don’t just provide financial assistance; we actively engage with the communities and ensure that these resources make a meaningful impact.

In my longstanding involvement with Lions Club International, we’ve been able to conduct numerous eye camps, medical camps, and educational programs in Nepal. Witnessing the joy on the faces of those who receive care or education is incredibly rewarding. These experiences reinforce my belief in the importance of giving back to society.

3. As the Honorary Consul General of the Honorary Consulate of Nepal to the USA, you play a vital role in fostering international relations. Can you share a memorable experience or achievement in your diplomatic role that stands out to you?

Serving as the Honorary Consul General has been a truly enriching experience. One standout moment was when we facilitated a cultural exchange program that brought together artists and performers from Nepal and the United States. This event not only promoted cultural understanding but also strengthened diplomatic ties between our countries.

Additionally, during the devastating earthquake in Nepal in 2015, we coordinated with U.S. authorities to provide relief efforts swiftly. It was heartening to witness the support and solidarity of the American people during that challenging time. These experiences underscore the importance of diplomacy in times of crisis and collaboration for the greater good.

4. Your involvement in advisory roles, such as the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Special Task Force on the Continuation of Nepalese Citizenship, highlights your commitment to addressing important issues. Could you shed light on the significance of these advisory roles and the impact they have?

Advisory roles are crucial as they allow individuals like me to actively participate in discussions and decision-making processes that affect our community. Take, for example, the NRNA Special Task Force on the Continuation of Nepalese Citizenship. Its mission is to safeguard the citizenship rights of Nepali diaspora members who have contributed significantly to their adopted countries. By serving on this task force, I can advocate for and address citizenship-related challenges faced by our community members.

Similarly, in my role as an advisor to the NRN National Coordination Council (NRN NCC, USA), I collaborate on initiatives that promote the welfare of Nepali diaspora members in the United States. These roles empower me to be a voice for our community and work towards practical solutions to complex issues.

5. Your journey from humble beginnings to becoming a respected figure in both Nepal and the United States is truly inspirational. What message or piece of advice would you like to share with aspiring entrepreneurs and individuals who aim to make a positive impact on their communities?

My message to aspiring entrepreneurs and community-focused individuals is simple: Believe in yourself and your ability to create change. Never stop learning, as knowledge is the foundation of growth. Be passionate about what you do, and stay committed to your goals, even in the face of challenges.

Success is not a destination; it’s a journey, and it often involves failures and setbacks. However, it’s through these experiences that we learn, adapt, and ultimately, succeed. Remember that success isn’t solely defined by personal achievements but also by the positive impact you have on others and the communities you serve. Strive to leave the world a better place than you found it, and you’ll find fulfillment in your journey.
